Mr. Sudhakar Rao


Mr. Sudhakar Rao, is the chairman of the board of the BSE Institute Ltd.

He was previously a member, of the Public Enterprises Selection Board, which is entrusted with the selection for all posts in Central Public Sector Enterprises at the level of Director of the Board and above. An alumnus of the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) cadre, Sudhakar has served in various capacities in India and abroad including the Chief Secretary to the Government of Karnataka, Chairman, Bangalore Development Authority, Bangalore, Minister (Economic Affairs), Embassy of India, Washington.

Mr. Ambarish Datta

Managing Director

Mr. Ambarish Datta is the Managing Director of the BSE Institute Ltd.

Prior to taking up this assignment he headed the Technology Aided Learning group at Reliance Retail Limited. During which he was responsible for a nationwide roll out of e-learning and blended learning programs covering a wide range of learners for shop floor staff to senior managers. Prior to his stint with Reliance Retail he has handled various portfolios in the IT and learning solutions space. He has over 15 years of experience in sales & execution of technology solutions. Extensive domain knowledge in SCM, Retail, BFSI, eLearning Solutions & Manufacturing businesses. Well versed with global technological progress and trends with proven experience in developing custom software solutions & new product development and the ability to design complex solutions for mission critical business needs.

He has done his SMP from the Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta.

Mr. Tantra Narayan Thakur

Tantra Narayan Thakur is a director of Kristan Advisors Private Limited, a member of the management board of TERI University, a Faculty of the Faculty of Management Services (FMS) of Delhi University, a former member of Advisory Board of TERI and of the Finance Committee of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU). A former member of the Indian Audit and Accounting Service, Mr. Thakur has more than 40 years of experience with government, private & global companies in India, South Asia & SE Asia.

He is widely acclaimed as an innovative professional for setting up & managing businesses, and is serving as a non-executive Member of Board for several companies including InfraCo Asia Development Pte Ltd and InfraCo Asia Development Pte Ltd., Singapore. He was advisor for Fortum India, a subsidiary of Fortum (Finland) and for the Essar Group during 2012-2014. He has provided advisory services to many other companies in the Energy Sector in India.

He led the first electricity trading company, PTC India Limited (PTC), in India/South Asia as Chairman & Managing Director during 2000-12 for which he had been persuaded by the Govt. of India at a time when the company was a liability, and within a year of his tenure it became one of the best performing companies of the Govt. He led the company to diversify into financial services through PTC India Financial Services Limited and co-sponsored the first Energy Exchange (IEX) in India. He played an instrumental role in setting up the first Power Exchange in India.

He was deputed to UNHCR, Geneva for performance audit on behalf of UN Board of Auditors. He served as member of the Prime Minister’s Task Force (headed by Dr. C. Rangarajan) on the socio-economic development of Jammu & Kashmir.

Mr. Ashishkumar Chauhan


Mr. Ashishkumar Chauhan currently works as the MD and CEO of BSE, the first stock exchange of India. BSE is ranked as the largest exchange in the world in terms of number of stocks listed.

Ashish has been given the Distinguished Alumnus Award for the year 2014 by his alma mater, Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay. In 2014, he has also received the best CEO in the Financial Markets in Asia Pacific by the Asian Banker and the Best CEO Award for Global Islamic Financial Initiatives from CEO Clubs Network. He has been ranked amongst the 60 most influential Gujaratis in the world for last 2 consecutive years by Chitralekha, the largest selling Gujarati magazine. He was also ranked amongst the top 50 Chief Information Officer (CIO) by several magazines and institutions between 2005 and 2009 including CIO Magazine US, Information Week, US etc.

Ashish is best known as the father of modern financial derivatives in India. He was part of a small team of 5 people selected from IDBI to set up National Stock Exchange (NSE). At NSE, he set up the first commercial satellite network, initial technology platform, Nifty index, NSE’s certification in financial markets (NCFM), listing, derivatives markets etc. At BSE, he has been responsible for bringing in the fastest trading system in India with 200 microseconds response time. In addition, he has also been responsible for revamping of BSE, bringing equity, currency and interest rate derivatives to BSE, introducing mobile trading system in India and several other achievements.

Ashish is considered as one of the foremost experts in financial market policies, microstructure, information technology, organized retail, telecommunications, Indian social issues, cricket etc. He also worked as the CEO of a cricket team in its formative years – Mumbai Indians in addition to his role as the President and CIO of Reliance group.

He currently serves on the Board of ICCL, CDSL, BSE Institute Limited and Marketplace Technologies Limited. He is also a member of the Board of Governors of IIIT D&M, Jabalpur. He also serves as the Chairman of the Advisory Committee on Technology of FMC, member of several SEBI committees (including Primary Market Advisory Committee and Secondary Market Advisory Committee) and has served on various other government and regulatory committees; CBDT and FMC, amongst others in the past. He is also a member of the UK-India Financial Partnership constituted by the Ministry of Finance, Government of India. He is a member of the National Executive Committee of FICCI as well as the Capital Markets Committee of FICCI, National Committee on Capital Markets and National Council on Financial Sector Development of CII. He also serves on the managing committee of Indian Merchants Chamber.

He and his writings have been quoted in various magazines, newspapers and other media - worldwide over last 2 decades.

Ashish holds a B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering from IIT Bombay and PGDM from IIM Calcutta.

Mr. V. Balasubramaniam


Mr. V. Bala is the founding Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of India International Exchange IFSC Ltd. (India INX) the first International Exchange from India in GIFT City International Financial Services Centre Special Economic Zone which started its operations from Jan, 2017 and a wholly owned subsidiary of BSE (Asia's first stock exchange).

He also holds board position at BSE Sammaan - CSR Exchange and India International Clearing Corporation IFSC Limited.

Mr. Amit Mahajan


Amit Mahajan heads the Information Products and Procurement function at BSE. He is also responsible for all digital initiatives of BSE, including BSE’s website, which is amongst the most popular websites in the country and mobile apps.

Amit is a technocrat with sound business acumen, his areas of interest includes web technologies, web advertising, e-Commerce and mobile applications. Amit has 2 decades of experience in management of IT application project portfolios across Stock Exchanges, eCommerce platforms, telecom and retail sectors.

Amit Mahajan is a Bachelor of Engineering from BITS Pilani, India and an MBA from Mumbai University.

Dr. Y.S. Rajan


Mr. Y.S. Rajan has a proven track record of excellence as a Scientist, Technologist, Administrator, Organisation Builder and Leader, Diplomat, Academic, Writer and Poet. He combines a unique ability for original and innovative thinking with strong implementation skills. He has capability to network with multi–disciplinary and multi–cultural groups.

As Scientific Secretary, Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), he was responsible for a combination of scientific, technical, administrative, planning, policy and international cooperation matters. His contributions in shaping ISRO from its initial experimental phases into a major service delivery organisation have been remarkable. He has worked with Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), USA and NASA for about three years.

He was awarded Padma Shri by the President of India during 2012. During January 2013, he was felicitated at the India Geospatial Forum, with Lifetime Achievement Award.
