Kumar holds a M.A. (Hons) (Economics) from the Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani, Rajasthan. He has spent over three decades in the financial services industry, having worked with illustrious organizations like SBI, IDBI, NSE, Cazenove, Credit Suisse, Aloula Geojit Capital, USE and most recently with ICCL. He has gained through his experience of having worked across functions like compliance, operations, membership, inspection and legal in the early years of his career to strengthen his transition to leadership roles in the last decade. He has a deep understanding of exchange operations and related regulations, as well as extensive experience in building a business and managing stakeholders.

Kumar is an astute and strategic business leader, as is evidenced from the role he played at NSE during its start-up phase. He along with 5 other individuals, were closely involved in interacting with the regulators and shaping regulations for the broking business. He also built the membership base at NSE by meeting brokers, ascertaining which products will be most suited to meet public demand, setting up the Inspection cell, among other things.

After spending around 6 years with the NSE, assumed a role at Cazenove as a Director from 1999 to 2001, leading the operations and regulatory compliances of the Indian arm of the UK based broking house. He went on to work with the OTC Exchange as MD&CEO from 2003 to 2004, after which, he had the opportunity to serve as SEBI appointed Independent Director on the Bangalore Stock Exchange Financials Ltd.

His first foreign stint was Geojit Capital, where he was tasked with setting up the entire operations of the company in Saudi Arabia, a joint venture business with BNP Paribas an independent promoter.

He returned back to India in 2012 when he took up the position of Deputy CEO & COO with United Stock Exchange, leading the Exchange's operations.

He is part of the Risk Management Review Committee of SEBI.
